Internet Explorer 8: My First Impressions

written by markdunn on Monday, March 23 2009

IE8 is finally out of beta and if you want to get your hands on it just follow this link: http://www.microsoft.com/ie8.  IE has always been my primary browser of choice because I spend a lot of time on MS sites.  One of the first things you'll probably notice is the speed increase for page loads.  IE8 is much faster than IE7.  Aside from speed, here's my quick list of things I like:

IE8 also includes settings for compatibility for sites optimized for IE7.

Tab management is awesome.  Related tabs are grouped and color coded.

Improved security features like InPrivate Browsing, InPrivate Filtering and SmartScreen Filtering.

There is more out of the box that I haven't had time to play around with yet.

My conclusion is going with IE8 is a no-brainer.  It's faster, safer, and has better tab management.  I'll be surprised if this release doesn't win back some of the Firefox converts.
