TechEd 2009 Interviews
I really enjoyed TechEd this year in Los Angeles. Most of my time was spent in the TechEd Online area working with Susan Boyd to record some panel discussions and interview various industry experts. It's always a fun gig for me and I never fail to learn something new from each interview.
First up is a panel discussion with Rockford Lhotka, Aaron Erickson, and Ted Neward: http://www.msteched.com/online/view.aspx?tid=0373c558-d2eb-4ca9-b9ac-dbde78ec694a. Aaron titled this panel "The End of Software-Based Rube Goldberg Devices? How the Multicore Revolution and Functional Programming Change the Game." In addition to talking about the evolution of multicore processors we also hit the topics of aspect oriented development and functional programming.
Next is a panel discussion with members of the Microsoft SQL Server team to discuss "SQL Server Programmibility." As a data guy, I greatly enjoyed this discussion and the opportunity to meet Michael Wang, Michael Rys and Tobias Ternstrom: http://www.msteched.com/online/view.aspx?tid=99cb2169-7d35-4457-9149-4b04d7195717
I also had the pleasure of recording a Tech Talk with Mark Pollack on the subject of "Architecture Refactoring: Improving the Design of Existing Application Architectures": http://www.msteched.com/online/view.aspx?tid=d9215c3d-78a6-41a9-a8b8-38345d123edf. We had the chance to talk about dependency injection, aspect-oriented programming and enterprise architecture patterns.
Next up is an interview with Johan Arwidmark to discuss deployment tools and best practices: http://www.msteched.com/online/view.aspx?tid=f44ae077-0165-4ca6-8740-a8cae040cd2f. This area isn't in my sphere of expertise so I learned quite a bit.
My last interview was with Keith Kinnan on the "Virtual Earth Silverlight Map Control": http://www.msteched.com/online/view.aspx?tid=b5a5fcd8-1476-4b3b-a55b-ab7d74813507. It's really amazing how quickly you can tie mapping data into a Silverlight app with this control. Keith was kind enough to show off some great demos in this talk as well.
